Story

Located just a short commute from New York City, Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters was initially a plausible front for Xavier's original X-Men. Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman, and Jean Grey learned, lived, trained, and fought there for many years. Eventually the X-men went through several incarnations and the School through several upgrades.

Destroyed by villains and rebuilt, the School eventually became an Academy in Western Massachusetts, but returned back to Xavier Mansion in Salem Center once again. As an Institute, it housed more than just one team of mutants. The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning was home to scores of mutants seeking sanctuary and training. This too was damaged, destroyed, upgraded, and rebuilt on a number of occasions.

By the time of the estate's destruction during the "Messiah Complex" storyline, the X-Men themselves had fragmented -with the primary group relocating cross-country to San Francisco and establishing a permanent X-base there.

The Danger Room

The most famous single room in all of superheroica is the Danger Room. Located deep inside the Xavier compound, this training area was dangerous to superheroes and would have been lethal to normal humans. Generations of X-Men exercised and conducted wargames there. The Danger Room was so sophisticated an environment that it eventually became sentient and set out on it's own. It (now a cybernetic she named "Danger") is currently at large.
