Kal-el was born on the planet Krypton to scientist parents who foresaw the end of their civilization. They packed him up in a rocketship and sent him to Earth before their red sun went nova. Kal-el was found by a kindly human couple, adopted by them, and raised as one of their own. Under our yellow sun the alien, now known as Clark Kent, was empowered with superstrength, superspeed, superhearing, x-ray vision, laser eyes, freeze-breath, flight, and invulnerability -except for Kryptonite (an inert ore whose radiations only seem to affect Superman).

The physics of superheroes. What are their powers, how do they work, and where did they get them?

From the pages of Popular Science.

SuperPowers

Superpowers are, of course, the extraordinary abilities possessed by superheroes and supervillains. Some get their powers from technology. Some get their powers from magic. Whatever the source, Einstein was the first to suggest that there must be one unified theory that would explain them all. He did not find it in his lifetime, but as soon as an explanation is found, we will include it here.

In the meantime, here are some disporate ones.
