Captain Sweden (aka Kapten Sverige) was, perhaps, the quintessential Swedish superhero.
Contents |
Origin
Born Humphrey Tagelberg, he was a sickly man who was deferred from conscription into the military. He got a second chance, however, thanks to the Swedish Defence Research Establishment (aka Försvarets forskningsanstalt or FOA). Whenever he hears the mystical words "Du gamla, Du fria" ("Thou Ancient, Thou Free" being the de facto national anthem of Sweden), Humphrey undergoes a metamorphosis -becoming an icon of human physical perfection, capable of standing toe-to-toe versus any evil. Cloaked in the yellow and blue of his homeland, Captain Sweden is the personification of truth, justice, loyalty, and generosity.
History
Captain Sweden has fought giant apes, Nazi dinosaurs, and other supervillains.
Powers and Abilities
In addition to flight, he possesses extraordinary strength and speed.
Not To Be Confused With
When you google Captain Sweden you may find yourself confronted with numerous imitations including...
-none of which should be confused for the original 1993 version.
The Movie
Captain Sweden, the movie, appears to have been stuck in development hell for almost a decade.
(Perhaps because it bore little resemblance, in appearance or concept, to the original.)
