Particularly vexing to fans is the multiplicity of the X-Men franchise. Some of their many incarnations include the Uncanny X-Men, Ultimate X-Men, X-treme X-Men, plain X-Men, New X-Men, X-Men 2099, X-Men:Legacy, and Astonishing X-Men. Most of these titles featured the same characters in completely different universes. It did not help that characters such as Phoenix and Colossus died and were later brought back to life. It also did not help that some characters were cloned while others appeared in our present from the future.
